Project Alma / Chile:

Das Atacama Large Millimeter / Submillimeter Array (ALMA), eines der größten erdgebundenen Astronomie-Projekte des nächsten Jahrzehnts, ist eine wichtige neue Einrichtung für die Welt der Astronomie. ALMA besteht aus einem riesigen Feld von 12-m-Antennen mit State-of-the-art-Empfängern, welches alle atmosphärischen Fenster bis 1 THz abdeckt. Eine zusätzliche, kompakte Anordnung von 7-m-und 12-m-Antennen ermöglicht eine wesentlich bessere Abbildung externer Quellen. Der Bau von ALMA begann 2003 und wird 2013 abgeschlossen sein. Das ALMA-Projekt ist eine internationale Zusammenarbeit zwischen Europa, Ostasien, Nordamerika und der Republik Chile.		The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), one of the largest ground-based astronomy projects of the next decade, is a major new facility for world astronomy. ALMA will be comprised of a giant array of 12-m antennas, with baselines up to 16 km and state-of-the-art receivers that cover all the atmospheric windows up to 1 THz. An additional, compact array of 7-m and 12-m antennas will greatly enhance ALMA's ability to image extended sources. Construction of ALMA started in 2003 and will be completed in 2013. The ALMA project is an international collaboration between Europe, East Asia and North America in cooperation with the Republic of Chile.


BEST Fire Systems hat die Brandmeldeanlagen für die Flywheel, OFS und AOS Container und die Choke- und Cabletransformern gebaut. OSF steht für Operations Support Facility und befindet sich auf 2.900 Metern Höhe. AOS ist die Abkürzung für Array-Operationen Site und liegt in 5.000 Metern Höhe am Chajnantor Plateau.		BEST Fire Systems has built the fire detection systems for the Flywheel, OFS and AOS Containers and the Choke- and Cabletransformer.
